Together with FrieslandCampina Asia
How could we turn compliance into opportunity?
Asia's rapid urbanization and consumption growth have increased packaging waste. New regulations, like Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), demand brands manage packaging end-to-end, raising costs. However, FrieslandCampina is taking proactive steps, exploring the pathway to 'own' packaging waste across six Asian markets.
Local meets global: Navigating EPR across markets
Imagine being a global brand with diverse packaging needs, operating across multiple markets, all with different waste ecosystems and policies. FrieslandCampina aimed to develop a cohesive regional strategy to own its packaging waste, aligned with its global sustainability vision and is financially viable. By breaking down these challenges step-by-step, we helped uncover the best investment strategies for impact and efficiency.
Mapping the landscape
Together with Ubuntoo, our big data partner, we built a comprehensive overview of FrieslandCampina’s six priority markets, examining regulatory conditions, market dynamics, current initiatives, and landscaping existing collecting & recycling systems. This collaborative effort helped prioritize packaging streams and countries, ensuring each local approach aligned with broader goals and made the most impact.
Envisioning Circular Strategies
Through design thinking, we explored ways for FrieslandCampina to lead in tackling the waste challenge, envisioning strategies to ‘own’ their waste and develop actionable, market-specific approaches. By identifying and evaluating local initiatives—like community recycling and waste-to-energy programs—the team built a foundation for scalable, on-the-ground solutions aligned with both local needs and FrieslandCampina’s sustainability vision, inspiring industry peers.
